After School Educator (Part-time Position)

Lake Ridge Academy seeks enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Extended Day Educators. You will play a crucial role in providing a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for groups of students ranging in age from kindergarten through 8th grade. Your responsibilities will include supervising children, assisting with homework, organizing engaging activities, and fostering a strong sense of culture and community within the program.

This is an afterschool position with hours from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday during the school year. There may be opportunities for extended hours during school breaks.
Responsibilities:
  • Supervision and Safety: Maintain a safe and secure environment for all children, ensuring that safety protocols are always followed.
  • Homework Assistance: Provide academic support and guidance to students with their homework assignments, encouraging them to develop good study habits and a positive attitude toward learning.
  • Activity Planning: Organize and lead various age-appropriate, fun, and educational activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Culture and Community Building: Emphasize the importance of building a positive and inclusive community within the program. Foster an environment that celebrates diversity and encourages respect for all individuals.
  • Conflict Resolution: Mediate and address any conflicts or issues that may arise among the children, teaching them constructive ways to resolve conflicts and communicate effectively.
  • Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents/guardians, keeping them informed about their child's progress, activities, and any relevant concerns.
  • Role Model: Set a positive example for the children by demonstrating kindness, respect, and responsibility.
  • Health and Nutrition: Promote healthy habits and nutrition by encouraging the children to make good choices regarding snacks and physical activities.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Ensure the afterschool space is clean, organized, and conducive to learning and play.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle emergencies and follow established protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of all children. 
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting is preferred.
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education or coursework in child development or related fields is a plus but not required.
  • Passion for Education: Demonstrated enthusiasm for helping children learn and grow, with an understanding of age-appropriate developmental milestones.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to interact with children, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to respect and appreciate diverse cultures and backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment for all.
  • Patience and Adaptability: A positive and patient demeanor with the ability to adapt to varying situations and children's needs.
  • Reliability: Punctuality and consistency in attendance are crucial to ensure the smooth running of the afterschool program.
